We have recently did a group project talking about the concerns of Ebola. Ebola is a serious disease that is spreading throughout many different countries all over the world including the United States. If someone gets Ebola, it is very dangerous and can be very deadly. Hospitals are trying to treat and cure patients that are sick, but Ebola can be very deadly and many patients cannot be cured before the disease overtakes their body and they eventually end up dead. This virus is very contagious when you have direct contact with it.

During this project I learned a lot about Ebola and all the effects it has. The virus itself is actually named after the Ebola River where they believe the virus was actually found.  The Zaire Ebola Virus is the agent that is the actual cause of the disease known as Ebola. Even though the sickness is getting much attention from the media right now it has actually been around for a very long time.

Bats are known as one of the main carriers of the Ebola virus, but many other different organisms are able to be a carrier of the illness, obviously this also includes humans. With humans constantly on the move carrying this disease, it is easily spread to different parts of the world.

This is how the concept of globalization is tied into the spreading of this deadly disease all over the world. People are becoming infected with this virus and then they decide to move to a different area of the world. When they do this they also bring the horrible disease with them, thus making it easier for the sickness to spread globally. Globalization and global health go hand and hand because the movement of people from one place to another can greatly affect the global health in a complete different part of the world.

As these people keep moving to new parts of the world, they are also hurting the environment in other parts of the world. As they move they bring a new virus to the environment in parts of the world where it would not naturally be.

Also, with the expanding population and people always on the move, you have contact with a lot more people than what people use to. As people are coming into contact with more people, it is way easier for viruses and other contagious sicknesses to spread.

Globalization can play a very harmful factor in global health. With technology constantly improving, maybe they can reduce the spreading of infectious diseases to new parts of the world.

US Healthcare

Should healthcare be a right given to the people in the United States? We recently watched the film Sicko by Michael Moore. In the film he evaluates the health care system of countries like: Canada, Britain, France, Cuba, and the United States. All the countries that he visits offers free healthcare to its people except for America. America was the only country in the movie that did not offer free healthcare to its people.

So should the government offer free healthcare to its people? I think yes. If other countries all over the world can make it work, why can’t America. People in other countries seem to enjoy the free healthcare provided to them by their government. Doesn’t the US government feel like people living in America would also enjoy healthcare being provided to them also.

With healthcare prices constantly rising, more and more of people’s income is going to their medical bills. Some people are avoiding necessary treatment and hurting their own health because they can’t afford to receive care. Some of the people that receive care can hardly afford to live because their medical bills are so high. Yet the doctors that are supposed to be helping these people just keep getting richer and richer.

I think the government needs to open its eyes and look at the people, because the healthcare system we have now isn’t working.

Human Trafficking and Slavery

In my globalization class we recently watched about human trafficking called Human Trafficking. It was a very good movie and was very good movie and does a great job teaching people about human trafficking. It also does a very good job informing people how serious of a problem human trafficking really is in today’s modern world. The movie also does a great job showing how human trafficking is very wrong.

Human trafficking is compared to a modern day slavery. Human beings are being forced to sell their bodies and are being forced to do things they don’t want to do, while being treated horribly and getting nothing in return. And it’s surprising the amount of people that can’t see that this is wrong, because they just keep doing it and doing it. This modern day slavery is bad in more ways than one.

Human trafficking isn’t just a problem in one or two countries; it’s a very big problem all over the world. Some people don’t even realize how close it is happening to them. This is a problem that could be happening just a hour from your house. It may even be happening in the town you live in and you just don’t know it.

Human trafficking is a very bad form of modern day slavery. People are being forced to sell themselves and do stuff they really don’t want to do. This is a problem that is occurring all over the world and definitely needs to be out to an end.

Globalization Affecting Women

Globalization affects women greatly. It has showed to affect different groups of women in different ways. Globalization can be either good or bad for women. I believe that it has created good things for the women in other cultures by helping them raise their personal income level. Globalization has also caused some big disadvantages for women too. One example of a major problem that has come up with globalization is the idea of human trafficking.

Like I mentioned, globalization is a very good thing for women because it has created new jobs for the women to work allowing them to raise their personal income level, which doesn’t only benefit just women, but it will also benefit their entire family unit by raising its wealth. This is occurring because companies are expanding and creating more jobs for women to work.

Globalization may have bad effects on women too. Like I said before, I believe it has contributed to the problem of human trafficking. If you click here you will find a website that also lists some of the harmful effects globalization has on women.

Globalization has greatly affected women all over the world. Sometime it is for the good, sometimes it is for the bad. Globalization has been noticed to affect many different types of women in lots of different ways.

Migration is when people move from one place to another. Some people chose to migrate away from a place; others are forced to migrate from an area. There are many reasons that people may migrate. Some have to leave because of things like their job; others may have to leave their home because of disasters such as war. The reasons why people leave their home land are known as push factors and pull factors. Migration is also related to globalization because it is bringing many different people together as they are constantly moving to different parts of the world.

Push factors are things that push people away from a place. There are many different forms of push factors. In most cases people have no choice but to leave their home. One of the reasons that someone may be pushed out of a place is because of economic issues. If the economy in a place is bad and many people are living in poverty and without jobs, they may be forced to leave to try and find a new career somewhere else. War is another big reason why someone may be pushed out of a place. If a place is unsafe to live most people will have to leave.

While push factors are causing people to leave their home land, pull factors are what bring the immigrants to a new place. Pull factors are the positive things about a place that would make people want to move there.  Living standards influence where people want to live. Most people want to live in a place with a higher standard of living. Shortage of labor may also bring immigrants to an area. Jobless immigrants will move to a place with a labor demand just to get a job.

Like I said before, migration closely relates to globalization because it brings people together from all over the world. Many different people, with many different cultures, from many different places are always on the move spreading their customs and beliefs to new parts of the world. Like in the film “God Grew Tired of Us”, as many Sudanese immigrants came to America, they also brought their way of life and taught many Americans about their culture and how they lived back in their homeland of Sudan.

People are constantly migrating from one place to another for many different reasons whether it be because of push factors or pull factors. Migration plays a very important part in the spreading of cultures and brings people all over the world together.

After watching two separate videos in class last week I learned that there is a huge conflict in the world whether globalization is a good thing and a bad thing. There are many pros and cons of globalization. Even though I believe there are a lot of bad things that come with globalization, there are also many good things that can come along with it too. I think that globalization is a good thing in a world like the one we live in today. It provides many advantages in many areas such as trade, international relationships, industry, economic growth, transportation, communication, and also in technology.

Globalization helps benefit trade by making it possible between countries that are many miles apart. With globalization, companies will now have a worldwide market where consumers can now purchase products from countries all over the world. Establishing trade will also stimulate economic growth within countries. Companies are now expanding and becoming more competitive with other businesses all over the world, which is also creating a lot more jobs for the people living in the country. Part of companies competing with each other means they will also be competing to have the best price, which usually means lower prices for the consumers. Lower prices for consumers is one of the biggest benefits for the consumers buying products.

Countries are now learning more about other cultures than they have ever known before. Countries are now able to learn more about foreign cultures and beliefs. I believe it is a good thing to learn about other cultures and their beliefs. People are now becoming more open and understanding towards each other and their way of life.

As more people are traveling now days, speedy travel is becoming more and more necessary. Now with mass communication, people can stay in contact with people in different parts of the world. The internet has become a big deal in communication and also a great source for information.

It is because of the growth and improvements in technology that globalization is possible. The use of modern technology can keep every part of the world in contact with each other and with new improvements being made every day will only bring cultures even closer together.
